It was named after an English Manor House, which had a hall with a stream (Burn) running through it, hence, the name ‘Burn Hall’. In 1943, the missionaries established Burn Hall School in a rented home in Srinagar, with the motto “Industria Floremus – In Toil We Flourish”. In 1948, Father Tijssen set up Burn Hall School in a small hotel building, the Abbot Hotel. Father Scanlon: the first Principal of the school along with Borekamp and Mallet were appointed in staff.
The Fathers replicated the system and promoted sports and extra-curricular activities such as music, debate, dramatics, and art as a means of character building. Later on, additional space was acquired and more buildings were added to accommodate an increasing number of students and the school came under the control of the Diocesan Board, of Education, Rawalpindi. In 1956, a school building was constructed a few miles outside the town, on Mansehra Road, the present location. Its purpose was to provide more room for the seniors and it became known as Senior Burn Hall, while the campus in the city center initially became Junior Burn Hall and later Burn Hall for Girls. In 1977, the Burn Hall School Abbottabad, was handed over to the Pakistan Army, being located on ‘A’ land and purchased from Fathers.

Very poor educational standard, since after missionary fathers left and army took over. It was OK even till 1985 or 86, but declined rapidly after that time. I would never send any of my children here at all.

1/ 5

I am an A levels student. I've recently studied in this school and I'm sorry to tell that this school not at all met my expectations... Education-wise its standards are very low... The standards have declined greatly since 2010. The F.Sc branch is still doing just okay but the Cambridge studies are really poor... The teachers are F.Sc teachers who have been shifted to Cambridge section to teach Cambridge students so therefore they are not well prepared and have little or no experience teaching the Cambridge style education system... They teach the Cambridge students just like they would teach the F.Sc which obviously does not work and greatly jeopardizes the future of the students. Therefore we can call it a good school for primary education but not at all a good college! There is no career counselling available for the students and no facility of internet available for the students out of school hours which does not allow them to research and study from the internet which a really big need for A level students. They(The College) may say that they have a library available but you won't be allowed to go to the library much so it's of no use. The teachers do not hand out notes of any kind and they tell you to get the notes by yourself which you cannot if you're a boarder!!! You cannot leave the school as the a GREAT school like this doesn't have the facility of a photocopier! Furthermore there are no teachers available to help you excluding school hours so basically your left on your own with a huge tough syllabus of A levels. You have to do everything by yourself and pay the school a large sum of money for just providing you with unqualified teachers and depression and anxiety. It looks really appealing from the outside but only the people who live inside know the truth about this GREAT college. It may have been great previously but now it is futile studying here and your probably gonna get bad grades if you expect help from anyone. Your totally on your own here and you get no help whatsoever! So if your good at studying a syllabus of A levels at your own go ahead and study here or otherwise just go get admission in a better school for A levels. This school is good for day scholars only NOT boarders as the day scholars can join academies to study and also have the facilities of Internet and everything else. P.S The only good thing good about this college is that there is a specific time for every activity. Other than this the things people say about discipline and everything are totally myths. There are many other problems too if you want to come to this school as a boarder about which I can go on for hours.

Its building is very beautiful and its discipline is very well but it's education level is very weak. Hostels are very neat and clean and have very strict roles. Extra curricular activities are very much focused in this institution.
