A large number of people from different segments of life welcomed the Azadi Train on its arrival at the Bahawalpur Railway Station on Wednesday afternoon. People continued thronging the compartments of the train exhibiting portraits of Freedom Movement leaders and the martyrs, who had been decorated with the Nishan-i-Haider. Radio Pakistan’s Bahawalpur Correspondent on board Azadi Train, Sajjad Parvez reports that the Azadi Train is being run in connection with the Independence Day celebrations and to pay homage to martyrs of the Pakistan Movement and soldiers, who sacrificed their lives while defending the country. There are galleries exhibiting various aspects of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s life, Bab-e-Khyber, Bahawalpur’s Quaid –i-Azam Solar Park, cultures of Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways announced the platform ticket had been waived off to facilitate people. According to an official of Pakistan Railways, Azadi Train is aimed at informing the younger generation about the struggle for Pakistan, highlight sacrifices of the armed forces and introduce different cultures of Pakistan. The Azadi Train started its journey from Peshawar on eleventh of this month and will end its journey at Karachi on forth of next month under the first phase.
