From 1871 onwards, it became the Secretariat of the Government of the Punjab. Today, although the front lawn is maintained, subsequent changes have altered the surrounding area. It is fortunate that proposals for shifting and reconstruction did not bear fruit, and the building itself continues to function as the office of the Chief Secretary of the Punjab. The Civil Secretariat, located in the Anarkali area, can be said to be the earliest extant British building in Lahore.

Great Buildings, Infrastructure & Facilities. Proper mismanagement of resources. Lack of aptitude to work ethically and professionally. "Reference" makes the mare go. No maintenance, lavish spending of poor public's funds. Same old Sarkari/Babu/Clerk/Files in hand/'Sir G Sir G' culture. Change for betterment is coming but slowly. Parking is inadequate. Bank within the premesis. Great security.
