This programme is primarily aimed at students who wish to pursue careers in academic
and industrial environment areas related to Human resource development and management.
The programme shall aim to provide students with comprehensive and coherent approaches
of the employment and development of human resources.The program shall aim to provide
students with knowledge to understand the HRM philosophy about how people should be
managed through number of theories relating to the behavior of people and organizations.
This program course covers the broad areas and concerns of the practice of HRM, covering
its conceptual basis, the strategy framework with which HRM activities take place and
various factors that affect it.
This course is about both the design and execution of human resource management strategies.
This course has two central themes: (1) How to think systematically and strategically about aspects of
managing the organization’s human assets, and (2) What really needs to be done to implement these
policies and to achieve competitive advantage.
This course will not get into the technical details of personnel management such as
the psychometric aspects of test validation, the specifics of job evaluation methods,
the mechanics of interviewing, or the intricacies of employment law. These topics are
primarily relevant to those intending to be human resource professionals. Instead, this
course adopts the perspective of a general manager and addresses
human resource topics from a strategic perspective.
Students will:define human resource management and the key functions as they relate
tothe human resource (HR) department
and organizational goals;outline the phases of the human resources planning process and
identify tools that can be used in this process;
describe job design and job analysis, methods of recruitment, and government legislation that impact HR decisions;
evaluate strategies for promoting and/or transferring employees, performance appraisal,
and wage and salary packages;examine methods and concerns in determining an organization’s training and development, sources of occupational
safety, and health and strategies for improving them in the work environment; and
analyze the concept of employee rights, unionized labor, its nature, structure, distribution, and effects on employees and employers.
