I am fond of old as it says old is gold. It make me shocked who people over 2000 years ago lived here. By having a glance of their prayer stupa, class rooms, conference room, bed room n kitchen, u ll left confused if they really lived 2000 years ago... Really?? I loved this place so will too....

MOHRA MARADU.My Home Town :* :* ....Feeling Blessed that i belong to such a Historic and Beautiful :* Village . Mohra Muradu ( TAXILA ) Mohra Muradu is the place of an ancient Buddhist stupa and monastery near the ruins of Taxila, in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The ancient monastery is located in a valley and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. The monks could meditate in all stillness at this place but were near enough to the city of Sirsukh to go for begging as it is only around 1.5 km away. The city was built in the 2nd century CE and renovated in the 5th century. Thus it belongs to the Kushan age. The ruins consist of three distinct parts, which include the main stupa, a votive stupa and the monastery and have been included in the world heritage list of the UNESCO since 1980 under Taxila.

After visiting Taxila museum and Sirkap remains, we went to Mohra Moradu ruins.Located just after 10 mints drive on main road and 5 mints drive on the minor road, you will reach the location. Although it is not a crowded place and commonly people donot visit it, but it is a safe place and a must visit. Surrounded by the montains, It includes the ruins of Gandhara stupa and monastery. The monastery consists of 27 rooms for the students and the teachers built around a courtyard with a pool. The large, square shaped pool contained water for ritual washings and was about half a metre deep. Stairs to the pool were present on all sides. The monastery also contained a kitchen and a well for water that still functions today. A good place for short trip while visiting Taxila or Khanpur Dam.

In its day this would have been a well hidden and difficult to find Buddhist monastery, discreetly located in a narrow valley. It's located between a Julian monastery and the exposed metropolis of Sirkap a tendril used by silk road merchants. Entrance fee for locals is Rs20 and Rs500 for foreigners a ticket can be used at all sites. Signage and descriptions are appropriately positioned throughout the site. The guides are knowledgeable but be aware of false claims of finding antiquities in fields. The site is easy to access and well worth a visit, expect to spend at least 30 minutes on walk-about
